Keep a record handy of your beginning 2013 odometer readings

Dear Friends,

As you send your 2012 mileage totals to Harold Patterson, please keep track of your beginning odometer readings on all your bikes, BMW or otherwise. I am in the middle of programming a custom app to keep track of all of your miles by bike by brand that you may want to use later. The first year requires a beginning and ending odometer reading. But the ending reading can also be the starting figure for the next year as long as the bike is not ridden. The application will keep track of any number of bikes, brands and models over time.

But to start the program will need your beginning odometer readings for 2013.

Harold’s email is: Haroldrp2@aol.com

Thanks and Happy New Year!

Jim

Check for seal when removing oil filter

by Chuck Carter from a Facebook post
So, here I am changing my oil and filter on my R1100RT, that I have done bookoo times, right? Old filter comes off, great! New filter, not so good! After 30 minutes of struggling to get that stupid thing screwed on, I finally compared the two filters, Hmmm, the new filter has a rubber gasket, the old one does not! Crap. So, after scraping the old one off from the oil filter area with my fingernails, in the next 30 seconds, I was done. Go figure……Just a heads up, gang!

Editor’s note: This is a good maintenance tip of the kind that I hope members will post on this website so they can be archived and searched for by other members. Making a post is no more difficult than writing an email. Give your post a title and write something. On the right-hand margin, select one or more appropriate categories for your post. In this case I selected “Maintenance” and “Oil.” A list of categories appears on the right margin of our home page. By selecting one of those categories, you can see all posts made in that category. When a new post is made, an email is sent to all members who have chosen to receive such emails.

Wayne Garrison named MOA Ambassador

(Use the full-screen icon at the right side of the control bar to see the pictures in a larger size.)

Wayne Garrison was named MOA Ambassador at the November 3, 2012 Indianapolis BMW Club meeting held at Racer Parts Wholesale. Garrison was totally surprised by the announcement by club member Rick Nelson. Several club members commented that Wayne, for the first time in his life, seemed to be a loss for words.

The Ambassador designation is by vote of the board of directors of MOA. Congratulations to Wayne for this very distinctive national honor!
