Youngest Rider Award

Rachel Nelson, Rick’s daughter, won the youngest rider award at the Beemers in tIMAG0244he Bluegrass Rally last weekend.

She rode a new-to-her 2007 F650 GS from Weston, West Virginia to the rally a little over 300 miles one way. She’s been riding about 2 months.  Dad is very proud.

Bigfoot at the Rally

I’ve come across a few more pictures of the legendary Bigfoot visiting the 2013 BWM MOA Rally in Salem OR.

Bigfoot World of BMWApparently he visited the BMW demo trailer area, probably to scope out the new models.

He also was seen checking out new helmets in the Vendor Building.  He created quite a stir there, although by this time in the rally he seemed to be a lot less shy around BMW folks.

Someone caught a photo of him visiting the Children’s Events area.

Bigfoot and Dave Stech 2He must have gotten comfortable enough to let folks get pictures with him.  Who knows, maybe he’ll be coming to the 2014 BMW MOA International Rally in St. Paul, Minnesota, at the State Fair Grounds July 24-27.

Make your own plans to be there !

GS Ride in Oregon

I finally got to go for a good ride here in Oregon.  I was done cleaning up all the loose ends at 3:30 on Monday after the Rally, and today I took a day ride following a route Coach Ramey Stroud gave me about 3 weeks ago. The route was in the mountains east of Salem with occasional views of Mt Hood and the Three Sisters and topped out at 4000 feet a few times.  It was beautiful.  IMAG0196I did have to take the Micatech side bags off twice to squeeze around locked forest gate bars, but it was worth the effort. There were 120 miles of gravel and dirt roads out of the 180 total from my campsite and back. Most of the roads were well cared for, a few had some ruts, bumps and big rocks, but it seemed to be a good match for my abilities, or lack thereof. IMAG0215

More pics to come, as soon as I figure out how to get them down to the 1 MB limit required here.
