March 2015 Monthly Meeting Minutes

The March 2015 monthly meeting of the BMW Motorcycle Club of Indianapolis was held at the home of Theresia and Archey Shearer.

After a great pitch in meal with sliders and drinks provided by the host/club, President Jay Beery called the meeting to order at 3:10 PM. The content of the meeting consisted of various announcements made by Wayne Garrison, Margie Ledgerwood and Andy Clark.

Wayne discussed the club sign up procedure for the RA Rally, the Paynetown Campout, and the European Bike Rally. Secretary’s Note: please refer to the calendar and announcements on this web site for detailed information.

Margie Ledgerwood, reminded the attendees about the rides leaving Shapiro’s after breakfast on the third Saturday each month. Secretary’s Note: If you want to lead a ride out of Shapiro’s you could post your intention on the web site and/or yahoo list by Friday afternoon to generate interest.

Dennis Shelly announced he will soon be selling his Mini Cooper. Any interest, contact Dennis.

Mike Williams urged everyone to attend the monthly meeting at his house on April 25. Registration on the web site is requested so the right amount of pork loins may be smoked for lunch.

Andy Clark announced the Tag game is on again this year with official start of April 1

The 2015 Mileage Awards are ready for delivery. If you have yet to receive yours, make arrangements with Wayne Garrison the Mileage Committee Chair. Secretary’s note: Awards are nice and practical, electronic tire pressure gauges, with engraved award plate affixed.

2015 SPRING PAYNTOWN CAMPOUT REMINDER

For those who have not attended a Paynetown campout I thought I would give you a little information as to what to expect.

The dates this year are May 8 – 9 -10.
The campground in located in the Paynetown state recreation area located on Lake Monroe.
It is 6.5 miles south of Bloomington In. on highway 446.
You can arrive as early as noon on Friday.
One reason we like using Paynetown is that it is close enough to allow family’s to attend. It also allows people to come down in cars to bring more creature comfort items. Kids are more than welcome to come; other members will be bringing kids. After all it is a family membership.
When you enter the park there is a $5.00 charge to get into the park. Once you are in the park, you may enter and leave using your camp site pass.
You do not have to go to the campground office to pick up a site tag.
I will have the site tags to hand out.
Each site tag will cover 2 motorcycles when leaving and entering the park. The gate people usually just wave you on through.
Each site can occupy 2 tents, and up to 6 people. Showers and restrooms are located within 20 yards of the camp site.
I always try to reserve the campsites so we will be able to camp as a group.
See map below.

We are not really required to camp on the exact numbered site.
You may camp anywhere you wish within the reserved sites.
We usually move picnic tables together for a group fire ring.
Ice, firewood, drinks, and food type stuff are available at the camp store. The store opens at 7 or 8 in the morning and has coffee.
One or two miles north of the entrance on hwy 446 are 2 restaurants.
The closes one is the scenic view, lots of good food, and they do have carry out.
They also have a great selection of beer on tap.

The second one is the Log Cabin restaurant and lounge, THIS ONE SELLS BEER, but may be limited on selection.

The Trailhead-Market and Noshery (yes I had to look it up too).
This place will deliver pizza, subs, and salads, to the campsite.

The campout cost is $16.00 per tent for 1 or 2 nights, payable to me; I have paid the reservation fees, in advance.
No food or drinks are included in the camping cost.
When you arrive you may want to check to see if fire wood or ice may be needed for the group.
As wood and ice may be a group cost type of thing.
On Saturday there may be group rides, but at this point I personally don’t have any rides planned.
There is always an option to do some zip line runs at Explore Brown County, just south of Gnaw Bone, IN. They are located on Mt Liberty road 2 miles south of Gnaw Bone.

Go to the web site, log in, and click on the calendar, click on the event, enter the information about people, and tents.

As the 2015 riding season is beginning to start, so too is the BMW MOA mileage contest.

This contest is separate from our local club mileage contest; our local club contest is only interested in BMW miles ridden, in a calendar year.

The moa mileage contest runs for a 6 month period, and requires odometer start and end readings.

Start readings are recording on April 11, 2015. Please remember that you have to sign the form, and it must be verified.

Verification is done in one of the following signing ways.

By two (2) BMW MOA members, or one (1) signature by an MOA Chartered Club Officer, MOA Director,

Ambassador, Staff, BMW Dealer or Notary Public.

These forms must be postmarked by May 11, 2015.

Forms can be found in the April issue of the MOA ON magazine, or can be downloaded at

Once again this year the club will be holding the 2015 MOA mileage turn in at Falcone Powersports BMW shop, on Saturday April 11, 2015, from 10 am to 2 pm.

Anyone turning in a form at the shop can spin a wheel for a surprise gift.

If you cannot make the April 11th sign in, forms can be turned in at the Saturday morning breakfasts at Shapiro’s.

Forms can also be turned on April 25th at the meeting at Mike and Mamie Williams.

As in the past, the forms will be collected, and mileage information will be tallied by Rick Hansen.
