How do I insert a picture(s) in a Post?

Pictures should be in jpg format. The ideal width is 600 px wide at 72 dpi. However, don’t worry about that because WordPress will automatically downsize it for you. If you have an image editor such as Photoshop, Lightroom or GIMP, you can easily downsize to 600px wide at 72 dpi.

First place your cursor where you want to insert the picture. The click the “Add Media” button above the writing area. The cursor is just below this line.

Now you have the option of dragging and dropping files on the window or clicking “Select Files” to use your file browser to locate files.

Here the file browser is used to select a picture of Rick Nelson that has already been sized to 600 pixels wide. Once the file(s) are selected, click the “Choose” button.

Now you are back in the Media Library area and the file selected is marked with a checkmark in the upper right corner. The information about the file is in the right margin. Here you add a caption, select the alignment you want, select the size you want, and click “Insert into page.” Since I presized the picture to 600 px wide, I selected Full Size 600 x 400. If your picture is larger than 600 px wide, use the pull-down to select a size that is no more than 600 pixels wide. When the view, clicks on a smaller picture, they will see it in the larger size.

What if my cursor was not in the correct location-can I move the picture? Yes, of course you can and it is easy to do. Select the “Text” option in the upper right corner of the writing area.

Find the code that is inserting the picture. It will start with “<a” and end with “</a>.” Select the text with your cursor. Be sure to get all of it. Delete it and move the cursor to the new location and paste the copy there. Click the “Udate” or “Publish” button and the picture will be in the new location. Or you can click on the picture and the delete icon will appear. You can then go to the Media Library and reinsert it.
