TOURING TIPS

When I pack for a 3 day trip or a 2 month I pack my cloths the same.

I carry 3 clean pairs of socks, underwear, and tee shirts, that along with the set I am wearing means I have 4 days of riding Then I when I stop for the night I find a motel with laundry facilities,

I put on swimming trunks and washing the entire bundle. The next morning I start out with 4 days of clean cloths.

The socks and underwear are placed on the tee shirt and then rolled up into a slim cylinder, this allows for much better packing. This also allows me to grab one cylinder and off to the show I go.

My dirty clothes are either placed in a zip lock bag to identify the dirty from the clean or turned inside out.

Ditch the rally t-shirts and invest in wicking shirts. They pack smaller and dry faster. It doesn’t need to be a major investment. Wal-mart and Gander Mountain frequently have them on sale for less than a rally t-shirt
We had an interesting mixed-gender discussion at the Euro rally about what we wear under our riding pants. And no, it wasn’t a debate of boxers vs briefs. It was a discussion about fabric and construction. Cotton is the worst. It won’t wick, it will chafe. The seams always seem to be in the worst place and it offers no support.
Look for spandex bicycle style short, compression shorts or yoga pants/tights. Fast drying, pack small and the compression fit will feel better for a long ride. Be mindful of where the seams are located. To the knee or longer can be more comfortable. The slicker finish even makes it easier to pull on your riding gear. They also enable you to get out of that hot, heavy riding gear to put up your tent without scandalizing your fellow campers. UnderArmour and LD Comfort (designed for the motorcyclist!) are high dollar quality brands but lots of other brands are out there. CycleGear, mail order and in Castleton, has several different kinds. Personally, I think the summer ones are too thin.
Finally, we rarely ride even to dinner in jeans so why pack them. The elastic waist camp pants that zip off to shorts take half the packing space of jeans and dry faster.

Great post, there are so many things that some of us take for granted after touring for so long.
The rally shirts always have some sort of decal on them and it sticks to you when you sweat.
