2013 BMWMOA Mileage Update and BMWMOA 2014 Mileage Contest Start

Good morning

I have just completed our final 2013 BMWMOA Mileage numbers as the 2013 contest results are listed in the April BMWON magazine which arrived last week. Our club finished with 34 finishers in 2013 unless I missed someone. THE ON contest is based on participation not miles ridden so its the number of finishers by state. We , Indiana, finished 10th this year with 47 riders it appears . Wisconsin came in first with 134 finishes and over 1 million miles ridden. Our club represented 72% of the Indiana riders and 73% of the Indiana miles ridden. We averaged 8601 miles per rider in 2013. Peggy Rose made the top 25 Female finishers list too!!

You may want to check your own final mileage on the MOA list in the ON news. I see a few differences in miles reported. Chuck Carter being one and Rick Nelson ended up in the South Dakota Listing this year.

Its just about participation not miles, so if you ride 1, 10, 100, 1000 or 10000 miles it makes no difference as long as you do the paper work. No cost and you get a pin each year from the MOA.

The 2014 contest starts on 4-12-14. Forms must be mailed in by May 12, 2014. I hope you will consider joining in on the fun, I will see if the board and dealership are willing to have another signup event turn in your forms day at the dealership again this year. So get your forms ready, witnessed and write down your mileage on 4-12-14!!!

March 2014, Monthly Meeting Minutes

Missy and Johnathon Fishburn hosted the meeting at their home near Camby.

There were approximately 30 club members in attendance.  A rainy day, it was fitting that the only rider was the 2013 winner of the mileage contest, Andy Clark.

Barbeque was served and there were many fine side dishes and deserts.

President Margie Ledgerwood called the meeting to order at 3:20 PM.  She announced the next meeting would be held at Mike and Mamie Williams place on April 19, 2014.  Mike added that weather permitting; aircraft will be involved again this year.  Camping the night before the meeting was encouraged.

Margie told the group to contact Jim Brown if they wish to have club business cards made.  Jim can sell you a few sheets of business card stock if required.

After ascertaining there was no business from the floor, Margie announced she had enjoyed serving as club President over the last three years. She recognized the contributions of fellow officers, and noted improvements made to benefit the future of the club.

Mike Williams was recognized as the President-elect. His tenure begins on April 1, 2014. Mike was given the floor, and uncharacteristically was at a loss for words.

Margie thanked Missy and Johnathon for hosting the meeting, and adjourned the meeting.

Margie is deserving of our thanks for the many hours and miles expended in service of the club during her tenure as President.

Personalized business card now available

BusniessCard_Single CardAt the January meeting, Wayne Garrison suggested that it would be good to have a club business card.

I now have a template and can make an individualized card in a few minutes and mail it to you.

I have made a few already and as far as I know Dennis Shelley is the first to print some out.

They look very nice and conform to BMW design specifications. The PDF that I make print 10 cards to a 8.5 x100 page. There are specific Avery products that match the printed output. They are: 15871, 18871, 27871, 27881, 27882, 27883, 28371, 28873, 28876, 28877, 28878, 38871, 38873, 38876, 5371, 5376, 5377, 55871, 55876, 5870, 5871, 5874, 5876, 5877, 5878, 5882, 5911, 8271, 8371, 8372, 8376, 8377, 8471, 8476, 8571, 8865, 8870, 8871, 8872, 8873, 8874, 8875, 8876, 8877, 8878, 8879.

Yesterday, I found Staples 12520 (Inkjet, matte white), which is compatible with Avery® 8371. Other product are ivory in color or are for laser printers. A 25 sheet package, which will print 250 cards, is $21.39, including tax. Since few of us actually need 250 cards, I will sell some of mine by the sheet at $.85 per sheet. I am frequently at the Shapiro’s breakfast on Saturdays so see me there if you are interested.

You can, of course print them on paper or card stock and cut them apart. The advantage of using a Avery® or compatible product is that the sheets are pre perforated so it is very easy to tear into separate cards.

I can make a PDF document for any member (including spouses).

I need for each individual’s card:

Name
Title (for most people it will be Member, unless you are an officer or board member or have some coordination role)
Address
City, State Zip
Phone (room for only one number)
Email

Automatically included for everyone is the club MOA number and RA number and the club website URL.

If you are interested send me the above data to jim.brown@bmwmcindy.org and be patient. These are made when I have the time.

I wish I had already printed mine up when I saw a BMW outside Starbucks the other day when I meet a now new member Jacob Dodson. I could have just handed him a card with the website URL on it and suggested he consider becoming a member. Since I had no card yet, I stood over him and his laptop and forced him to signup 😉
