I agree that the boxer shorts can and should be shut down.
Remember, It did take a while to get away from the carrier pigeons.

I think its about time to let Boxer Shorts fade into history. We probably should inform everyone what is happening, and why in the last few issues of BS. The notice could encourage those who need help with the web site to ask for a mentor, and those who do not use the internet to let us know so we can arrange a communication process to keep them in the loop.
I would like to see the Yahoo group continued for a while. It gives you a place to post messages, you don’t wish to post on the web site for whatever reason. It is also handy for spur of the moment communications such a last minute ride on a nice spring day. (I can dream) Perhaps in a year or so we will feel we can depend on the blog process.

When I look at the changes that I’ve made in the last ten years, I have to say that they were good changes. Some took a while to get used to.
My only concern is as a club will everyone help each other out with adapting to the Indy club website? Saturday morning’s at Shapiro’s will be a good place to ask questions and get answers. Being your phone, laptop to breakfast along with questions. We can make this work!

Am I the only one in the club that thinks we don’t actually need a monthly newsletter when we have a functioning website for club communication? Important items on the website could be put in a Word document, printed and mailed to the two people in the club who do not use a computer. The whole idea of a newsletter takes me back to the 1980s but it is nice to remember the old days 😉

You can subscribe to all new Posts very easily by looking for the subscription item on the right margin of the home page. Clicking on the “profile” link takes you to the subscription settings. Any time anyone makes a Post you will receive an automatic email notice. You can manage the subscription from the Dashboard. The recommended settings may be found in the FAQ here:

Holding information for a future publication date (monthly) is not good communication. Items of information should be posted as they become available on the club’s website.

      Good morning,

I think that as club we need to focus on one communication tool, this new webpage, My glider club is in process of doing the same thing, they have shut down the old website , (in our case our use of Yahoo Groups too) and are using the new website for all club activities and communiction and in the members only section our monthly minutes, financial statements etc are posted for any club member to see. We no longer send minutes and financial statements to the members. We have a few members that dont have email and the club may wish to mail them information etc. To facilitate the transition it would seem that while yahoo groups is primarily an email function, the new website has so much more to offer. The value of what Jim has provided is fairly substantial so it would make sense for us to fully utilize what has been provided to us. To make the switch however most organizations draw a line in the sand and club officers only use the new tool with information provided to the members about the changes. The same can be said at work when i have experienced web and email changes, at some point the old tool is just no longer available. Losing contacts and emails was a real pain as well, The tough part of change is we all like what we are used to , Sometimes to grow you have to make the leap and adopt and adapt to the new.

Jim makes a point that we can all post items in real time and if we each have subscribed to notifications we are aware of it much sooner than a newsletter. I admit I like newsletters but that is not as relevant when information can flow whenever it becomes available.

I concur with Jim’s comments. We do need to continue working on educating members especially new members. Maybe we create a printed handout with some basic information on how to use the web site. This could be distributed to new members or those who disagree with the notion that web sites are intuitive.
