MOA rally information

I received some information to share about the Bigfoot Beemers and Blue Skies Rally activities and events.

Registration is going to open on March 1 with the Registration Form appearing in the BMW ON and on the website. Pre-registration goes from March 1 through June 30. However, the only way to register until April 1 is by phone, fax or by mail to the MOA office. On-line registration is expected to be available on April 1. You may get calls or emails about the on-line registration not working, so we wanted you to know before Vince puts the information on the Website on March 1. The MOA staff are going to have a lot of additional work doing data entry of all forms for a month. Please keep this in mind when you contact the office staff.

Friday night entertainment sponsored by the MOA Foundation is JJ Grey and Mofro kicking off the evening followed by Jonny Lang. It will be a rocking night at the rally.

OregonWest Excursions Winery Tours are offering three different tours leaving and returning to the Rally Grounds. The Eugene and Newberg tours leave at 9 am and return around 3:30 pm and the Salem tour leaves at 11 am and returns at 3 pm. All tours include lunch at a winery and tastings. Salem tour available July 17th – 20th and Eugene and Newberg tours available July 18th – 20th. Registration for the tours will be available on the tour company’s website at: www.orwest.com no later than April 1.

Pottery Studio attached to the FAA Pavilion will be open during the rally. Children’s activities will be available on Thursday and Friday and Raku Pottery painting for all ages available during the rally. UPS is going to be located in Jackman-Long building.

Motorcycle Boot Repair

OK, here’s your change to “tell me where to go”. I’m requesting recommendations as to where to take my motorcycle riding boots for sole replacement. The nice and soft soles grips the road surface great at stops, but need to be replaced.

I believe there is a large repair shop in downtown Indy, one the small repair shops use, but I have not been able to find a name/location.

Help & Thanks,

Dennis

Building a better Battery

I love my 2012 G650 GS Sertao. Many of you know I traded my GS Adventure to downsize a bit, and was unexpectedly suprised how close the ergonomics are to my old 1200 GSA.

One issue reared it’s ugly head however. Several times in the last 20,000 miles I had battery trouble. Usually the Sertao started without problems, but it’s those not so usual times, which seemed to be getting less rare, that had me worried. I took the battery in twice to be tested, and both times the result returned saying “Battery Good”. No complaint here about the service department, their hands are tied by BMW Corporate when it comes to how to test things and what the results indicate, but I still didn’t trust the battery. In my thinking, how can it be good if it won’t start the bike? Not wanting to continue to take chances, as a non-start deep in the boonies would be trouble, I figured it was time to replace the lead lined little sucker. Continue reading

Shock Questions

Hello, fellow riders,

I am sure that my second set of OEM shocks for my 99K1200lt are due for replacement now that I have 97K on the bike,

It appears that Ohlins are the best option for me, Yes, no and where to buy them as I would like to save a few bucks, will Falcone install them without problems as part of a 24K service?
